[WoW] World of Warcraft starter guide |
|
|
Contents
1. Download and install
2. Setup
3. Add-ons
1.
Download World of Warcraft ( -> InstallWoW.exe ) and choose Wrath of the Lich King. Let it patch itself until it's on version 3.3.2-11403 (by 2010-03-08). Stop it from updating further if you have to.
2.
Open World of Warcraft\Data\enGB\realmlist.wtf and change its content to:
 |
 |
set realmlist 88.198.7.69
set patchlist 88.198.7.69 |
If you don't have an account on the #Noobi-Heaven WoW server yet, you can create one using the the World of Warcraft Account creation formular.
If you are registered, you can proceeed.
Start World of Warcraft with the Wow.exe, otherwise it will try to download updates. Only use the launcher.exe for the installation. You have to log in after starting the game. You will have to choose the realm, but that shouldn't be the problem, since there is only one.
3.
There are several add-ons that help you doing quests or orientate yourself. Here's a small package of add-ons which includes
- Atlas
- Cartographer
- Questhelper
- Titan Panel
You can download these and way more add-ons on Curse.com
Dexter wanted me to add this:
You can download AddOns that might be useful for starters there. Included is a Questhelper and a Panel so your UI looks a bit better.
Simply paste the downloaded file (Interface/AddOns/...) like it is into your "Program Files\World of Warcraft" folder.
The Questhelper e.g. is really useful : it helps in tracking quests and helps you levelling.

I'm having a problem with the WoW server
Everytime i connect up, it takes me to the realmlist, i click on the NH realm, and it just stays loading saying "connected", it will do this for a few minutes and then it will say i am disconnected from the server.
Please can i have some help?

Let it patch itself until it's on version 3.0.9.9551. Stop it from updating further if you have to.

Update |
|
|
I updated the guide.
1. Version is now 3.1.3.9947 as More wrote in a Newspost.
2. I linked to Curse.com for add-ons, because the wow-addons.rar is not uploaded anymore. (Inactivity-removal)

I am thinking to start this too, just for trying it out
but I've got two questions before: is orangensafts first post still up to date and my second question: do I need to pay in any way for playing WoW?
thanks

More hosts a private server, so you dont need to pay for it. Means: Its for free :p
And I guess osafts post is still uptodate

Yes, my post contains only currently valid information. When a new version is being released, More edits my post or contacts me so I can do it. However, everything should still work the way I described it.

all right, when I got time here (busy in America ) then I will contact my brother about it, since he bitched about that my parents don't allow WoW at home (I guess you guys understand why, I understand them too).
Greetings

Cool. I'd just say them ( and that's what I told my parents, too) that I don't pay for it . And that's the big difference. I can play whenever i want to . There is no prepaid card that runs out or so. So there is not really a "Sucht-Faktor" (idk the english word sorry.)

No way to get addicted without the need to pay money on a monthly base.
